Busy. Busy. Busy. That’s all that I have been for the past few months. Hardly a weekend to myself, hardly a day to myself. It all slowed down this week though, as we finally finished editing Ep4, and I’ve moved on to the Diaries, but since the content isn’t fully there yet, I can’t edit much. I’ve done what I can, I will correct what I can, but until the 23rd of April, I will be relatively free.

I’m not sure whether its a yay or nay moment, as I don’t know how to cope with a full weekend to myself. I’ve had the Saturday and Sunday to myself this week, and I was feeling restless. I watched TV, went out for a short while, then came back and watched more TV. I spent time with my parents, my grandparents, and my cats. Yet somehow, I still felt like something was missing, and when I was called and asked if I was going to work today, I gladly said yes, because I realise that I miss my little, 6×6, jail cell of a room.

Aaaaanyway, we were having some random lunch conversation and then it turned to cameras, and my mum wanted a new one to replace her G11. Something relatively cheap, decent in low-light, and smaller than the G series. So after scouring the internet, I came up with the LX5, S95/S100, and the XZ-1.

After much hoohaa-ing and such, we decided on the XZ-1.

It’s not a big camera, but it’s not small either. It’s definitely smaller than the G series, and it’s almost pocketable, but not quite.

The thing that stood out is the f/1.8 bit, which is quite a wonder to me as I’ve not really seen many cameras with that wide an aperture. Even at max zoom, the aperture is only f/2.5 which is damn amazing. Or maybe I’m behind times a little. Whatever, I like this very much, such big apertures on a compact camera.

So. I took it out for a spin just now, as I was going to the office to convert some footage anyway. So yeah, pictures! It’s been a while, eh?

All in all, I’m very happy with this camera, and I think my mum will be too. It’s a pretty damn good one, easy to hand hold, quite unnecessary to go above ISO 800 because of the huge apertures, and pretty decent picture quality. Just one thing I don’t really fancy: the LCD is very deceiving, it shows pretty noisy pictures, but once imported, they look damn good. Moral of the story is, Don’t trust the LCD.
