Happy Days!
The last time I posted something was a little over a year ago. Man has it been a while since I last felt the need to write anything down. A lot has happened in the past year, and perhaps one day I’ll sit down and properly think things through, and put my thoughts down.
Right now, though, I’m just going to do a little recap of what happened today. It was a day that the both of us have been looking forward to for a while.
It all began with Aimie wanting a camera, because she was impressed with her colleague’s EOS M. She talked about it incessantly, and I thought to myself, “Okay, why don’t I just get it for her?”.
And so I did. I went and did some research, and seeing as she needs nothing more than a basic little compact camera that supports interchangeable lenses (of which I have quite a few), I decided on an EOS M10.

It’s a nice little baby camera, not much in terms of “Professional” features, but more than good enough to get the job done. Plus, if she wanted to “upgrade” her camera, I had an arsenal of cameras to choose from anyway. Well, not really an arsenal, but a 5D Mark 3, 2 Panasonic GH4s, and a G7x Mark 2 does seem like more than enough to choose from.

So armed with her new camera, we were both itching to go and take some photos. It’s been a while since I felt the urge to go out and take photos, and fuelled by her enthusiasm, we decided to take some time and go on an outing. After some discussing and research, we decided on the National Zoo (a place that we have never been to together).
Saturday started bright and early (not really, we actually left the house at 11 am) and after packing our cameras (Aimie brought her M10 + Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 + 50 f/1.8, and I brought my 5D Mark 3 + 24-70 f/2.8 L + 70-200 f/4 L IS) we headed to the zoo with much enthusiasm and gusto. The journey was uneventful, save from some singalong moments we had in the car, courtesy of Spotify’s 90s playlists.
Once we got there and found our parking spot, we walked over to the ticketing counter where we got our first surprise. One adult ticket was RM44, which was a lot more than I could remember paying. I’m not saying it’s expensive, but I wasn’t expecting to pay more than RM50 for the both of us. We didn’t mind the price, though, seeing as how our zoo really needs the money to be fully functional. Plus, how often do we go to the zoo?

Once we got in, it was walking and stopping, for close to three hours (!) Who would’ve thought we’d spend that much time in a zoo. In all fairness, the zoo was pretty decent, and there were quite a fair few things and animals to look at and learn about.
I can’t remember what these are, but they looked cool

What would this post be without some photos Aimie took with her M10? Most of the shots are done using the M10 + 70-200 f/4 L IS, though she swapped to the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 and the Canon 50 f/1.8 later on

After walking for some time, we came across the panda conservatory (which was mispronounced by the dude who was taking care of it – he said panda conversation centre HAHAHA). So Malaysia has two pandas, a male and female, which were kept in quite a cool place (literally). Air-conditioned and large, it was quite a nice sight to see.

The only sad bit of the exhibit were the children (or the parents who couldn’t control them) who were noisy, despite being told by the man in charge to keep quiet so that the pandas aren’t disturbed. They even had staff holding up signs to be quiet, but these poor souls went largely unnoticed. Ah well.
After the panda exhibit, we came upon the highlight of our trip (well at least for Aimie it was) which was the butterfly enclosure. This was the last leg of our journey in the zoo, and it was a very fun ending to what was a very good outing.

After quite an enjoyable time in the butterfly enclosure, we decided it was about time to head off, as we were both hungry and somewhat tired from all that walking in the sun. Plus, it was our first weekend together without any other commitments, and we were adamant that we made the most of it. So we bid our farewells to the zoo, and headed home (not really, we went to Kayu Nasi Kandar to have lunch first, before heading home.
So that was my Saturday. A pretty fun and fulfilling one. But the day isn’t over yet. I’ve got some work to do after this, so I’ll stop writing for now.
Until next time. Owl be back!
