Selfmade Shoot no. 1

Today we had our first shoot for Selfmade, and it was a fun experience. It’s been a while since I shot with a team, especially video, so it was refreshing to be out in the field. We managed to test out a few new techniques, and also refresh our memories on how and what to shoot.

Me, being a test subject for framing and lighting.

Making sure all is well before we proceed to roll.

My first time having a slider in a show.

Azeem (our talent), Irshad (our intern), and I.

Having gone through this shoot, I’m quite excited to edit it. I’m also going to be experimenting a lot with Adobe’s Premiere Pro and After Effects, since that’s the direction the company is heading to in terms of post-production. Very eager, yet at the same time a little bit scared.

But, you never try, you’ll never know.

Ultra Wide Angled Goodness

Yesterday I went and bought a Samyang 14mm 2.8, seeing as I could do with an Ultra Wide Angle lens. It’s a manual focus lens, which should not be a problem since I am planning to use it mainly for videos.

The Samyang on my 5d3.

So far, having used it quite extensively during a shoot yesterday, it is a great buy. Very easy to use, just set it to f/8, focus about half a meter, and shoot. The “moustache” distortion that I read a lot about is not so bad, and I don’t notice it in my videos and stuff.

Maybe my next purchase would be the 85mm. Whether it will be a Samyang, Sigma, or maybe even Canon L, remains to be seen.
